After School Sewing Club: 9th January to 6th February

Learn sewing, textiles, design and project planning skills with Debra, while having lots of fun!

All materials supplied from The Scrap Space’s stash!

Age 8+ drop off on Tuesdays, 3.45 - 5.15pm.

Themes coming up include:

Fluff n’ stuff: Create cushions & soft creatures to squeeze, squish & cuddle.

Patches & Pompoms: Repair with patches or construct an animal from pompoms.

Squares & Stars: Minecraft pictures & designer denim jewels. Use squares as a guide to perfect projects.

Manga Monster mayhem: Make whatever you want with a monster or manga theme.

Secrets & Skeletons: Make a container or bag with a special something inside

Activities will include many of the following skills, depending on ability:

Having relaxed fun.

Safe and responsible use of all equipment and materials .

Planning, drawing, accurate measuring and placement.

Pin, tack & cut economically.

Naming equipment, fabric structure, fibres & thread.

Choosing the right fabric & thread.

Following a paper pattern & written instructions.

Threading a needle & knotting.

Sewing by hand & machine.

Hand & machine embroidery.

Using textile glues, bonded fibres and soluble fabric.

Attaching poppers, buttons, studs and velcro. Making a button hole.

Supervised use of an iron - subject to parental agreement.

Dexterity & fine motor skills.

Hand eye coordination.

Multi-tasking and single focus.

Independent learning.

Team skills, knowledge sharing. 

Informed decision making.

Maths and problem solving.

Designing for texture, colour & three dimensions.

Enjoying creativity.

Building confidence in craft.
