About the event
Design and carve a small lino block and experiment with colour printing on different papers and fabrics. Combine with relief printing from “found” objects.
Linocut is a method of relief printing (like woodcut, wood engraving, letterpress, rubber stamping and potato printing). The surface of a lino block is carved using a range of different shaped cutting tools (gouges) to make different marks for the design; small v-shaped gouges for fine lines, u-shaped gouges for larger areas but lots of other marks can be created which you will be encouraged to try out.
When carved the block is then inked up with a roller with the ink covering the raised, un-cut areas of the block. The inked block is then printed onto paper, or fabric, either by hand using a burnishing tool, or with a relief printing press. Each time you make a print you need to re-ink the block.
All materials provided. For age 16+ with Karolyn. Reduced price for 16 - 25 year olds.
Part of 'A Summer of Print', kindly supported by Adur & Worthing Trust Creative Commissions 2023. Work made in this session will feature in the exhibition at The Circular Space from 9th to 17th September.
