About The Event

Holiday Art Club with Claire. In this relaxed workshop we'll explore a variety of monoprinting and monotyping ideas - from carbon copy paper to frottage. Please ensure you wear old clothes! Age 8+. Drop off

A monoprint (or monotype) is a single print pulled from a glass, plastic or metal plate on

which ink or paint has been applied. No two prints are alike, although images can be similar.

Monoprinting is the most painterly method of all the printmaking techniques and there are various ways of making monoprints. The “additive method” is one where the image is painted by adding or building up pigment onto the plate. The subtractive method where the entire plate is covered with a thin layer of pigment then the image is created by removing

some of the pigment with brushes, rags, etc. With the transfer method an image is created by drawing through the back of paper onto an inked surface. The stencil method is where cut paper stencils are placed on top of the inked surface to mask out areas before printing. You will be able to combine and try these different methods to create some interesting effects and set of prints.
