Screen-printing is a proces sof transferring a stenciled design onto a flat surface using a screen, ink and a squeegee which forces the ink through the mesh of the screen. Although fabric and paper are the most common screen-printed surfaces, with special inks you can also print onto wood, metal and plastics. A “stencil” can be cut from thin paper, created photographically, or painted directly onto the screen with screen blockers. Designs for screen prints can use just one shade of colour, or several, but colours need to be applied in individual layers, using a separate stencil for each colour. When attached to the screen a stencil will block any ink coming though the mesh of the screen apart from the open cut away areas. The screen printing technique is widely used for printing fabric and designs on t-shirts and is great for producing multiple copies.
This is a 'pay what you can' event. For those who can pay, the suggested amount is £15 per place.
