About the event

Screen printing is a process of transferring a stenciled design onto a flat surface using a screen, ink and a squeegee which forces the ink through the mesh of the screen. Although fabric and paper are the most common screen-printed surfaces, with special inks you can also print onto wood, metal and plastics. A “stencil” can be cut from thin paper, created photographically, or painted directly onto the screen with screen blockers. Designs for screen prints can use just one shade of colour, or several, but colours need to be applied in individual layers, using a separate stencil for each colour. When attached to the screen a stencil will block any ink coming though the mesh of the screen apart from the open cut away areas. In our workshops we will be cutting stencils by hand rather than painting screen blockers or producing themphotographically which needs more specialist equipment.
Part of 'A Summer of Print', kindly supported by Adur & Worthing Trust Creative Commissions 2023. Work from this session will feature in the exhibition at The Circular Space from 9th to 17th September.
