Laptop Rescue Service

Laptopposter.jpg

Have an old laptop lying around that you no longer use?

Donate it to us and we will work with our partners Tech-Takeback to get it data wiped then refurbished and ready for reuse if possible and into the hands of someone locally in need of a laptop. If it can't be refurbished the components will be recycled.

What laptops are we looking for?

Currently we would like PC laptops with an Intel Core i3 (or better) processor.

The easiest way to check if your device is suitable is to switch it on and check the device settings.

For Windows 10: click on the Windows Start button, then click on Settings (the gear icon). In the Settings menu, click on System. Scroll down and click on About. On this screen, you should see specs for your PC including processor.

For Windows 7: from the desktop find the icon that is labelled “My Computer”. Right-click on this and select Properties. A window should appear summarizing your PC hardware specs including processor.

Devices should be in working order (i.e. can be switched on) and shouldn’t have any major damage (cosmetic damage is allowed). We can accept laptops with faulty batteries.

Please included charging or power cables where available.

Is my data safe?

Your laptop will be locked away before secure collection by Tech-Takeback, who will then data erase the device and issue a certificate demonstrating successful erasure.

What do I need to do to donate my laptop?

Drop it off during The Scrap Space's opening hours. We will fill out a form, give the the device a unique barcode and lock it away. This should all take only a few minutes.

If you have any queries, email thescrapspace@gmail.com

Who will receive the refurbished laptops?

We are working with other local organisations to identify people who would benefit from being a recipient of a laptop. If your organisation would like to be a part of this, please get in touch.
